THE CASTAWAY CHURCH
The Castaway Church is a Christ-centered, outreach-oriented, Bible church based on a mobile platform—a seasoned, 47’ sailboat named Steadfast. The goals of The Castaway Church are to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations and to make disciples of all men. Due to the eternal significance of the gospel, we are like the Apostle Paul; we are willing to endure the dangers and physical hardships that accompany international evangelism.
The Castaway Church operates very similar to conventional, land-based churches, except we carry out church functions while on the water at foreign ports. For believers, we offer regular services that include praise & worship, readings from scripture, sermons, and discipleship training. Upon request, we officiate Biblically-ordained weddings and perform submersion baptisms. For unbelievers, we offer communal meals, concise presentations on the lordship of Jesus Christ, public Q&A sessions, free Bibles, and open invitations to become followers of Jesus Christ.
Jesus taught that nurturing young faith is equally as important as facilitating new faith. While at foreign ports, our live-aboard members meet with pastors of coastal churches to gain an area-wide knowledge of Christian programs that are available, e.g., general discipleship, addiction counseling & accountability, sexual abuse/human trafficking support networks, medical/dental treatment, hunger management, freshwater well construction, temporary housing, occupational training, assistance with teen pregnancy. By knowing what Christian programs are locally available, we are able to direct new converts to land-based churches within their communities that are well-suited to deal with individual needs, both spiritual and physical. We feel this approach is critical to the spiritual development of all who are new to the faith.
The Castaway Church also advances the kingdom of God by smuggling Bibles into nations that are legally &/or culturally inhospitable to Christianity. Due to the precarious nature of this activity, we choose to be extremely selective about the information we publish online. It is by design that there are no photos on this page of The Castaway Church or of its activities.
For believers who have serious reservations about the use of sailboats to spread the gospel, please recall that the first-century apostles used sailboats extensively and successfully to advance the kingdom of God. Even Jesus used sailboats as platforms from which to teach, both tethered to the shore and while at sea. We, as followers of Christ, should use EVERY evangelistic tool available that proves to be both effective and efficient at leading the lost to Christ.
If you are intrigued by our efforts, please support our ministry.
